Woke up to flat calm waters in front of the cottage. Surface water temps at 72 degrees. Went out to the deep hole and the lake was alive with fish swirling on the surface for schooling 1″ alewives. I assumed with the warm water that they were smallmouth bass. Started catching salmon at 45 to 55 feet down and was surprised to discover that they were also on the surface, as I would pick them up running out line before dropping the downrigger ball. Caught 14 landlocked salmon running between 18″ to 23″ by 10 am. Good morning..
